Blue‑green tones — traditionally considered cool colours — are in no way inferior to warm ones. They create a sense of distance and atmosphere that cannot be achieved with reds, pinks, or yellows. Choosing between warm and cool palettes is simply a matter of preference, not hierarchy. Cool colours, in particular, bring a feeling of spaciousness to smaller interiors. Are these paintings sad? Not when a boat and its owner appear within them.

Hotel interiors seem especially well suited to presenting gouache works in cool colours. When we travel, we experience a range of moods — including those that call for reflection or a gentle melancholy. In everyday life, under the pressure of constant cheerfulness, there is rarely room for such moments. Most of the gouaches shown above were inspired by memories of the white nights in Sweden in 2010, as well as by observations of coastal flowers along Kraków’s Wilga River and the delicate blues of larkspur.
